What is Manifestation?

Manifestation aims to create a new reality out of thought, help you envision the life you want, and begin seeing the results show up in your life.

This comes from the law of attraction, which is a philosophy first noted in the 19th century. It proposes that the thoughts you have can attract what you want in your life. When You focus your energy on something specific, you can manifest it, or make it real.

For a woman wanting to lose weight, the process of manifestation I’ll describe below can help you get clear on your intentions, create the right mindset for lasting weight loss, and give you the tools to follow through with your weight loss plan.

Why is Manifestation Important?

In psychology the process of using manifestation techniques like visualization, meditation and anchoring is referred to as cognitive restructuring. This is a component of behavioral therapy that focuses on helping a person change their thought processes and beliefs to be more beneficial to the person’s goals.

By implementing the manifestation process, you can rewire your brain to help you lose weight.

This way you will be able to identify limiting beliefs holding you back.

Also, manifestation gives you the ability to get clear on your goals and follow through on the changes you set out to make.

Tips for Manifestaiton Success

Here are a few tips to help you maximize your results with manifestation

Step 1, Clear your Limiting Beliefs

To achieve the best manifestation results, you have to continually clear your limiting beliefs.

When you let go of the beliefs keeping you stuck, you effectively stop sabotaging behaviors in their tracks. 

For example:

You may have beliefs about your ability to lose weight because of something you were told as a child, or young adult. I was always told that it becomes harder to lose weight the older you are. This belief made me think it would be impossible to lose weight after I was out of my twenties. Not only was this belief hurtful to myself, it stood in the way of me being able to best help my clients. I have worked with women in all ranges of age, from 18 up to 60. Let me tell you, the basics still work, regardless of age. What holds us back isn’t that the beliefs are true, it is that we believe them. 

For better results with weight loss, make sure you are making a conscious effort to identify any limiting beliefs holding you back from making progress, or actively sabotage your weight loss efforts.

Step 2, Get Clear on Your Goals

When you set a weight loss goal, you create clarity and intention for where your journey is headed.

In other words, you are able to see where you are going, and use it to motivate you. 

To get started:

Think SMARTER

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable
  • Realistic
  • Time Bound
  • Evaluated
  • Rewarded

Step 3, Visualize

By visualizing yourself at your goal weight, living a day in the life, you can begin to practice. It is a technique used by athletes, high preforming business owners, and many more to practice an outcome before they have achieved it. 

If you want to lose weight and keep it off,  you can’t overlook this crucial step.

Check out this visualization exercise from the podcast that walks you through exactly how to use this technique. When you have a few minutes, grab a journal and find a quiet space to reflect.

And if the idea of visualization seems “woo-woo” consider this: 

A study published in the International Journal of Obesity found that those using functional imagery training (a fancy way of saying visualization) lost 5 times more weight than participants who only received Motivational Interviewing, which consists of walking patients through the stages of change and motivating them at each level. They didn’t include any other lifestyle education or advice in the study. So the visualization alone was enough to significantly help participants lose weight.  

That means if you don’t do visualization, you’re hindering your ability to lose weight by five times!

Step 4, Use Anchors and Positive Affirmations

Anchors and positive affirmations act as touch points, or reminders of the goal you are working towards.

When you assign an anchor, or state an affirmation, you create a physical or mental reminder of the goals you are working towards 

A common anchor many of my clients use is a piece of jewelry. You can pick a specific stone that holds meaning to you, or a ring, that everytime you see it, you think of your weight loss goal. I do this with a labradorite ring that I have, because metaphysically labradorite is seen as a stone for change. Physically, it is a stone that ranges in color anywhere from green, to gray, pink, purple, blue or yellow, all as you turn the stone. 

An example of a positive affirmation I use all the time comes in handy when I start to overeat or am not mindfully eating my meal. As I start getting full and want to “clean my plate” I remind myself that “I can stop eating whenever I want”

Step 5, Take Inspired Action

By taking inspired action, you are not just putting out to the universe that you want something. You are meeting the energy, and pulling your goals toward you. In weight loss specifically, inspired action includes eating balanced meals, exercising, self care, and clearing your limiting beliefs. 

In other words, you are making a concerted effort to bring about the dream life you are wanting to manifest

Step 6, Stop Sabotage and Allow Yourself to Achieve Your Goals 

Sabotage pops in at the worst times. You may have been making great progress, then all of a sudden the scale starts creeping back up again. On a conscious level, you want to lose weight. You really believe you want to change your life! So why do you sabotage yourself?

Because you have subconscious, hidden, limiting beliefs that keep you stuck. Self sabotage is normal. We all do it, but in order to lose weight, you need to recognize why you  sabotage yourself and learn to get past it.

There are 4 common types of Self Sabotage

  • Eating Pattern Sabotage
  • Hunger Awareness Sabotages
  • Self Care Sabotages
  • Environmental Cue Sabotages
